Youghal Directions & Locality Information

Location
Youghal is centrally located between the two international airport of Cork and Waterford and is on the main route that runs across the south of the country – the N25.  If you are arriving from the UK or France by Ferry then the terminal at Cork (Ringaskiddy) is just 40 minutes away.  Rosslare, with its ferry links to Fishguard and Pembroke can be reached in around 2 hours.

Exit the airport and turn left on the main roundabout.  Proceed to the Kinsale roundabout staying in the right-hand lane. Proceed to take the 4th exit on the left sign posted N25 for 25 minutes, through Castlemartyr and Killeagh. The next town is Youghal and you will need to turn off the N25 at the first exit. A short distance in (2 miles approx) to Youghal.

Cork Ferrypoint (Ringaskiddy) to Youghal (50 mins)
Exit the ferrypoint and turn right onto the N28 (sometimes marked R609).  Proceed north until you reach the junction with the N25 and go East following the signs for Rosslare.  After you go under the tunnel, turn right at the roundabout onto the N25 again, following signs for Rosslare/Waterford.  Proceed along the N25 for 25 minutes through Castlemartyr and Killeagh.  The next town is Youghal and you will need to turn off the N25 at the first exit.  A short distance in (2 miles approx) to Youghal.

Waterford to Youghal (1 hour)
Take the N25.  As you approach Youghal you’ll cross the spectacular Blackwater river and shortly after you’ll come upon a roundabout, turn left into Youghal.

Rosslare Harbour to Youghal (2 hours)
Take the N25 all the way, heading West.  As you approach Youghal you’ll cross the spectacular Blackwater river and shortly after you’ll come upon a roundabout, turn left into Youghal.


Locality
Youghal is a historic town situated on the estuary of the River Blackwater. Once the second largest port in Europe and home to Sir Walter Raleigh, it now offers an old-time charm, heritage and numerous leisure pursuits. The town is the focalpoint of an area of outstanding beauty, with superb Blue Flag beaches, 18 hole golf course, greyhound racing and tennis. Both Youghal Bay and the river Blackwater offer a haven for keen anglers where deep sea, fresh water, and shore fishing are all available.

The towns history may be explored on fascinating tourist trail which takes,i in the 13th century St. Mary's Collegiate Church, the Benedictine Priory,Tyntes Castle, Myrtle Grove the one time home of Sir Walter Raleigh and the Clock Gate dating back to 1777. These historical treasures ane locked within the confines of the old town walls which date back to Norman invasions of the 1400's and are among the best preserved in Europe.

On our doorstep there is the attraction of seven miles of safe, sandy beaches which lie on the verge of the Atlantic Ocean.  With this facility comes the opportunity for swimming, wind surfing, canoeing and many more water activities.

The centre of the town offers an idyllic location for shopping and entertainment with local pubs, bars, boutiques, cafes, craft shops and pottery Workshops in the area to visit.

For outstanding shopping Cork City is just 40 minutes away and while on your journey you can sample the other delights that East Cork has to offer The Midleton Heritage Centre, Cobh Heritage Centre, Barryscourt Castle, Ballycotton, Ballymaloe and many more.
